Government request to halt evictions across much of England & Wales

The government put out a request to bailiffs not to enforce court orders against tenants in regions with Tier 2 and 3 restrictions.

Evictions proceedings will still be able to continue in the courts but any enforcement orders will not be carried out if the tenant is in a covid restricted area.

Justice Secretary Robert Buckland wrote: “We would request that your members should instruct the enforcement agents working under their authorisation not to enter properties that are classified as local alert level 2 (high) or 3 (very high).”

The High Court Enforcement Officers Association has agreed to the request, which means along with the announcement that evictions would be suspended over the Christmas period in England and Wales,  evictions will or should not take place until at least January 2021.

If you need any help or advice if this could affect your properties or mortgages then don’t hesitate to get in touch.
